HealthMy name is Lucía Fernández and today I write with my heart completely shattered.
My husband, Armando, was always the pillar of our home. He was the one who went out to work every day, who fought to make sure food was never missing from our table, and who did everything possible to care for our family. He was always a strong, hardworking man full of hope.
But illness changed our lives completely.
His liver is severely damaged and no longer functions as it should. Every day I watch the man I love suffer intense pain throughout his whole body. His abdomen stays very swollen because of the disease, he lives with extreme exhaustion, and many times he can't even get out of bed.
As if that weren't enough, Armando also suffers from a serious throat problem that prevents him from eating normally. Every bite has become a moment of pain. Watching the person you love suffer even to swallow a bit of food is something that breaks your heart.
He also suffers from inflammation of the colon, which causes him even more pain and completely limits his quality of life.
Today my husband can no longer walk on his own. He needs a wheelchair to attend his medical appointments, undergo tests, and even move around inside our own house. Little by little he has lost his independence and now depends on me for almost everything.
I also had to leave my job to care for him 24 hours a day. I cannot leave him alone for even a moment. This means our family is left with no income at all, right when expenses have become higher than ever.
The medications he needs are very expensive. In addition, Armando uses three packs of diapers every week and needs a special cream to protect his skin, along with medical appointments, tests, proper nutrition, and all the care his illness requires. Every week a new expense appears, and unfortunately, we no longer have a way to cover it.
I never thought I would have to ask for help from people I don't know. We always worked hard and with dignity to get ahead. But today we are not asking for luxuries; we are only asking for a chance for Armando to continue his treatment and live with a little less pain.
Any donation, no matter how small, will help us buy his medications, the diapers, the special cream, the wheelchair he needs so much, and cover the basic expenses of our home while we keep fighting this illness.
And if you cannot donate right now, I ask you with all my heart to share our story. Perhaps it will reach the right person and change our family's fate.
On behalf of Armando and our entire family, thank you for taking the time to read our story. May God deeply bless everyone who decides to reach out a hand to us in this very difficult moment.
