Hi... my name is Joyce, and I am only 11 years old.
I never imagined that one day I would have to ask strangers for help. I've always been embarrassed to show my skin because it is covered in painful wounds and blisters. But today, I have no other choice.
I was born with a rare condition called Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB), often known as Butterfly Skin Disease. My skin is so fragile that even the gentlest touch, a hug, or the friction from my clothes can tear it open and create new wounds. Every movement can be painful. Pain has been part of my life for as long as I can remember.
While other children run, play, and enjoy their childhood, I have to be careful with every step I take. My bandages must be changed almost every day, and those moments are some of the most painful I experience. Sometimes the dressings stick to my wounds, making me cry in agony. There are days when even getting dressed or trying to sleep feels impossible.
Besides the constant pain, this disease puts me at a high risk of serious infections, causes wounds that take a long time to heal, makes eating difficult because of painful sores, and requires continuous medical care. Pain medication, special non-stick bandages, wound care supplies, doctor visits, and nutritional support are all essential for me to keep fighting.
My family does everything they can to care for me, but we simply cannot afford the cost of my treatment anymore. Every month the expenses grow, and sometimes we are forced to choose between buying the medical supplies I need or paying for our basic household necessities.
I have been too ashamed to ask for help. I never wanted to burden anyone. I truly believed we could keep fighting on our own, but we can't anymore.
